Magaziner Applauds President Biden’s Achievements, Vision for Working People in State of the Union Address
Washington, D.C. – Following President Biden’s State of the Union address, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) released the following statement applauding the President’s historic achievements and calling upon President Biden to continue delivering results for working Americans:
“Under President Biden’s leadership, Congress has taken bipartisan action to boost US global competitiveness, deliver much-needed funding to fix our crumbling roads, bridges, and ports; and pass the most significant gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years. Democrats in the House and Senate also passed the Inflation Reduction Act with President Biden’s support, cutting the deficit, lowering prescription drug costs, creating thousands of good-paying jobs, and accelerating our transition to a renewable energy economy.”
“But our work is far from finished. We must do more to lower health care costs for working Americans, and I share President Biden’s steadfast commitment to extend the $35 per month insulin cap to all Americans. After Rhode Islanders just experienced a record cold snap, we have our work cut out for us to lower energy costs, so that no family has to choose between buying groceries and heating their home this winter. And I strongly support President Biden’s call to ensure that the millionaires and billionaires start paying their fair share and stop paying a lower tax rate than teachers and firefighters.”
“In light of Republican threats to slash Rhode Islander’s hard-earned benefits, I commend President Biden’s unambiguous defense of Social Security and Medicare. And I share President Biden’s ironclad commitment to defending the dignity of LGBTQ Americans and restoring the protections of Roe v. Wade.”
“As the 118th Congress gets under way, I will always stand up for the working people of Rhode Island who elected me to represent their voices in Washington. That starts with the President’s promise to revitalize the middle class and restore the American Dream, so that everyone who is willing to work hard and do the right thing can build a great life. I look forward to working with my colleagues to turn that vision into a reality for all Rhode Islanders.”
Representative Magaziner was accompanied at the President’s State of the Union by Bishop Hendricken alum and Indianapolis Colts DE Kwity Paye.
