Magaziner Champions Bipartisan Record to Improve the Lives of Rhode Islanders
WARWICK, RI — Today, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) issued a statement on his bipartisan record during his first term in office and commitment to find common ground with Members of Congress from both parties to deliver for Rhode Islanders.
“When I ran for Congress, I said I would work with anyone, from either party, to deliver results for Rhode Island,” said Rep. Magaziner. “In my first term in office, I am pleased to announce that I have built bipartisan support for key legislation I have introduced that will improve the lives of working people in our state and across the nation.”
Rep. Magaziner introduced H.R.8407: Domenic and Ed’s Law with U.S. Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) and Representative Marcus J. Molinaro (R-NY-19), which will allow a parent whose child develops a total and permanent disability to be eligible for a student loan discharge.
Rep. Magaziner is co-leading H.R. 8775: The Contingency Plan for Critical Infrastructure Act with Representative Dan Crenshaw (R-TX-02) which will require federal agencies to conduct assessments of critical infrastructure operations to better prepare for and respond to cyberattacks.
As Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement and Intelligence, Rep. Magaziner introduced several bills with Representatives August Pfluger (R-TX-11) and Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY-4) to crack down on coercive tactics used by foreign nations to threaten people on U.S. soil for expressing their political views. H.R.7439: Strengthening State and Local Efforts to Combat Transnational Repression Act passed out of Committee on April 10 and is awaiting floor consideration.
Additionally, Rep. Magaziner is co-leading H.R.8018: Alleviating the Barriers for Caregivers Act (ABC Act) with Representatives Kat Cammack (R-FL-03) and Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY-11). The ABC Act will reduce red tape for family caregivers with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Social Security Administration (SSA) Insurance Program (CHIP) and reduce other administrative challenges.
Earlier this year, Rep. Magaziner introduced H.R.6888: Clean Energy Workforce Act, which will create a grant program to fund career and technical education programs to connect Rhode Islanders to good-paying jobs in the growing clean energy economy. This bill is co-sponsored by Delegate James C. Moylan (R-GU-At Large).
In December 2023, Rep. Magaziner introduced a bill to waive costs associated with the evacuation of U.S. citizens who were endangered by the war in Gaza following Hamas’ terrorist attack on October 7th, 2023. This bill received bipartisan support from Representatives Mike Lawler (R-NY-17), August Pfluger (R-TX-11), Marc Molinaro (R-NY-19), and Jefferson Van Drew (R-NJ-2).
Furthermore, Rep. Magaziner is co-leading H.R.3722: Daniel J. Harvey, Jr. and Adam Lambert Improving Servicemember Transition to Reduce Veteran Suicide Act with Representative Zachary Nunn (R-IA-3) to create a five-year pilot program that provides counseling and additional services for servicemembers transitioning to civil life in order to reduce suicide among veterans.
