Magaziner Co-Sponsors Legislation to Ban Assault Weapons, Demands Common-Sense Reform to End Gun Violence in Our Communities

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) became an original cosponsor of Representative David Cicilline’s (RI-01) Assault Weapons Ban Act. The Assault Weapons Ban Act would keep Americans safe by prohibiting the sale, transfer, manufacture and importation of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. This newly re-introduced bill comes after the House passed legislation to ban military-style assault weapons in 2022 for the first time in nearly 30 years. Following the recent spate of mass shootings, 199 of Magaziner’s Democratic colleagues decided to join him in signing onto the legislation.

“Rhode Island families deserve to feel safe in their schools, shopping malls, movie theaters, houses of worship, and anywhere else that they gather with loved ones in their communities. We have a gun violence problem in this country, and thousands of innocent Americans will continue to die unless elected officials have the courage to stand up to the gun lobby,” said Representative Magaziner. “Now is the time to take action, before more families face the unimaginable pain of losing a child, sibling, friend, or neighbor to these weapons of war that have no place in our communities. I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to join this common-sense effort to save lives.
