Magaziner Cosponsors Women’s Health Protection Act to Restore Protections of Roe v. Wade
Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) became an original cosponsor of H.R. 12, the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), which will restore the rights and protections guaranteed by Roe v. Wade.
Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s devastating Dobbs decision, 14 states have taken extreme measures to ban abortion. Travel time to abortion clinics has tripled since the Dobbs decision, and women who are unable to travel or access medication abortion are being forced to carry pregnancies against their will. The Women’s Health Protection Act would establish a federal right to receive an abortion, as well as protect healthcare providers who perform that care.
“Ever since the extreme, right-wing Supreme Court decided to overturn decades of settled law and strip away the constitutional rights of millions of Americans, Republicans across the country have been determined to ban abortion — even in cases of rape and incest,” said Rep. Seth Magaziner. “We must restore the critical protections guaranteed by Roe v. Wade, so that every woman in this country can access the healthcare they deserve. The freedom to control your own body is non-negotiable, and I’ll never stop fighting to protect abortion rights until they’re codified into federal law.”
