Magaziner Statement on Senate Committee Advancing Congressional Stock Trading Ban

July 30, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) today released the following statement after the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee advanced legislation to ban Members of Congress trading stocks while in office:

“I am encouraged to see the Senate making progress to finally crack down on Members of Congress trading stocks.

Now it is time for the House to act and pass my bipartisan bill to ban Congressional stock trading once and for all. Speaker Johnson should call a vote as soon as the House reconvenes.”

Magaziner is the lead sponsor of the TRUST in Congress Act, the bill with the broadest bipartisan support in the House to ban Members of Congress from trading individual stocks. This bill, which is co-led by Texas Republican Chip Roy, has 80 cosponsors – by far the most of any Congressional stock trading bill introduced into either chamber.
