Magaziner fields calls in telephone ‘Town Hall’

Thousands of Rhode Islanders joined a “Town Hall” via conference call hosted by U.S. Rep.Seth Magaziner last Wednesday evening.

He provided updates and answered questions for about an hour about his latest initiatives involving some of the most pressing issues: health care, Social Security, housing and utility costs.

“My focus remains the same as it always has been – fighting for the working people in Rhode Island,” Magaziner said. “That means lowering costs to make life more affordable, strengthening the economy so that everyone can get a good job, provide for their families and retire with dignity, and keeping our country, our democracy alive and thriving.”

Shortly after the event began, 9,000 calls were in the queue.

Kenneth from Scituate said he’s concerned about the high cost of electricity.

Magaziner is focusing on two points when it comes to the cost of electric; wind power and tariffs.

“The Revolution Wind project is almost finished,” he said. “Once it’s completed it will supply about a third of Rhode Islanders’ electricity because they have signed a contract with RI Energy to deliver power at a cost that is much lower than grid market price.”

He pointed out how the Trump administration has tried twice now to stop the project and both times the courts have ordered federal officials to let the project move forward.
