Rep. Magaziner Delivers Nearly $1 Million in Federal Funding for East Greenwich Waterfront Improvements

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. — Today, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) announced that he is delivering $963,000 in federal funding for a planned waterfront development project to improve shoreline accessibility in East Greenwich. Members of the press joined Rep. Magaziner and town leaders for a tour of the proposed development.
This community project includes three main elements: (1) Public right-of-way feasibility study and associated right-of-way improvements; (2) Shoreline resiliency and environmental protection upgrades, and the removal of fuel tanks and Transfer Station infrastructure; and (3) the development of a shoreline access path, shelter and accessible dock platform as a Phase 1 element of a much larger shoreline access network.
“Rhode Island boasts one of the most beautiful shorelines in the world, and every person in our state should be able to enjoy it,” said Rep. Seth Magaziner. “I’m proud to deliver federal funding that will improve shoreline accessibility in East Greenwich and invest in climate resiliency measures to ensure Rhode Islanders can enjoy our state’s beautiful natural treasures for generations to come.”
“These critically important funds joined with local investment will be transformative for East Greenwich as we set in motion positive change, fostering waterfront development that not only enhances shoreline accessibility but also fortifies resilience in an area more consistently being impacted by our changing environment. A commitment to such investment is a testament to our sustainable progress, and environmental stewardship as we preserve our coastal future. Thank you to Rep. Magaziner for his efforts to get this vital funding across the finish line,” said Andrew Nota, Town Manager of East Greenwich.
“This funding could not have come at a more perfect time,” said Mark Schwager, East Greenwich Town Council President. “East Greenwich recently completed a Waterfront Master Plan, and now we have the funds to make the initial concepts of the plan a reality. These projects begin the process of enhancing the waterfront immediately and generate momentum that will propel other phases of the work forward. This opportunity for East Greenwich would not be possible without the dedicated perseverance of Congressman Magaziner and his staff, who partnered with local government to deliver this funding.”
