Seth Magaziner (RI-02), Rhode Island Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education Angélica Infante-Green, and Providence Mayor Brett Smiley joined local education leaders for an urgent press conference to speak out against the Trump administration’s decision to withhold nearly $7 billion in federal education funding, including nearly $30 million for Rhode Island, with no clear explanation.
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) today issued the following statement following his vote against Republicans’ reconciliation bill:
“Republicans in Congress have jammed through a bill that guts programs working people rely on to hand out tax breaks to the wealthiest people on the planet.
"I am deeply disturbed by the recent incident at the Cape Verdean Independence Celebration in East Providence, where a man carrying a Nazi flag and a knife tore down and vandalized American and Cape Verdean flags.
As Ranking Member for Counterterrorism, Intelligence and Law Enforcement on the Committee for Homeland Security, I am aware that extremist violence continues to be a threat to the safety of people in all parts of our country.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) delivered his 25th speech on the House floor demanding that the Trump Administration restore federal funding forReady-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), a lifesaving treatment for malnourished children around the world. This comes as part of Magaziner’s commitment to speak on the House floor every day the chamber is in session until funding is reinstated.
“Today I am cosponsoring legislation to prevent President Trump from taking further military action against Iran without the approval of Congress. For decades, the United States has repeatedly become stuck in wars in the Middle East, costing thousands of lives. The American people do not want our country to be caught up in another endless war.
“The constitution gives Congress, not the President, the authority to decide where and when we wage war. Tonight’s attack is a violation of the checks and balances our nation was founded on. I fear that it risks igniting a broader conflict in the region that could cost the lives of American service members and civilians.
