WASHINGTON, DC -- In an effort to assist small businesses and nonprofits affected by the emergency closure of the Washington Bridge that began on December 11, 2023, Rhode Island's Congressional delegation sent a letter urging the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to promptly review any disaster assistance request from the state and to provide resources to help those impacted.

In the wake of the emergency closure of the Washington Bridge, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressmen Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo today sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) urging the federal government to free up existing formula funding that could accelerate completion of the emergency work on the Washington Bridge.

Washington, D.C. — Today, Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) and Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) led 57 Members of Congress in a letter urging the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to move swiftly to prevent creditors from using information about Americans’ medical debt to determine credit worthiness.

Like many people who cherish the United States of America, January 6, 2021 was a day Seth Magaziner decided to do something about what happened. Magaziner, then serving as Rhode Island’s general treasurer, got a call about the siege on the United States Capitol from the state police colonel. Due to the violence in Washington, D.C., the colonel said, he planned to send several state troopers to keep watch over Magaziner and several other Rhode Island elected officials.
