WASHINGTON, DC — Today, U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) released his office’s 2025 End-of-Year Report that includes a summary of his legislative actions, constituent services, community outreach, and federal funding secured for Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District over the past year.
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02), Ranking Member of the Counterterrorism and Intelligence Subcommittee on the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement on the fifth anniversary of the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol:
“Five years ago today, more than 2,000 insurrectionists violently attacked the United States Capitol and the law enforcement officers sworn to protect it.
“The American people do not want to be dragged into another war, and do not want to occupy another country just to make oil executives richer.
President Bush asked for the support of Congress and the American people before launching the disastrous Iraq War. President Trump didn’t even do that before putting American troops in harm’s way to further enrich his friends.
[...] The case made its way to Congress, with Noem questioned about the story during a hearing in early December. Rhode Island Representative Seth Magaziner, a Democrat, blamed the secretary for Hughes-Brown’s detention.
"She did not come here illegally, and she has never committed any crime other than writing two bad checks totaling $80 10 years ago," Magaziner said. "She is currently imprisoned and facing deportation."

Mrs. Hughes-Brown was immediately released after winning her cancellation of removal hearing on December 18, 2025, ending the deportation proceedings against her.
